EQUATOR – INDONESIA - BORNEO - a centre for orphaned orangutans run by the Orangutan Foundation. Just 55,000 orangutan are thought to remain in Borneo, a decline of two-thirds since 1990. At least 2000 orangutan are killed each year as a result of habitat destruction. The main problems are illegal logging and palm oil plantations.
