One of three poncho-clad troops, similar to those on the National Mall in D.C., is in place awaiting the two others, is currently on display at Harriman, TN's Riverfront Park. The Harriman memorial won’t be as elaborate as the one in Washington, but they will look really great!
Fought from June 1950 to July 1953, the Korean War claimed 36,574 American lives. Of that number, 8,200 were reported as missing in action, lost or buried at sea. Another 103,284 were wounded.
Lenoir City sculptor Greg Horak is working on the monument, which will be steel with a high-density Styrofoam and fiberglass coating.
The Korean War monument will be the latest of Horak’s work to be displayed at Riverfront Park.
