The guy on the left is a German engineer named Rudolph. He is 6ft 8” tall and, I found out, has a limited sense of spatial awareness. Fortunately he is very friendly (except when asked to row an small inflatable dinghy ashore: “I didn't come all the way to England (sic) to row a f*#?ing dinghy.”)

 

On the right is Richard, the captain, who didn't grimace when we bounced things off his boat. The good humour may owe to a man overboard drill in which the drill buoy was lost, rammed, run over, dragged and accidentally keel-hauled before finally being collected, to much self-congratulation.
