Dormancy

This sculpture is called "Dormancy." It was conceived as a bud. Yesterday I stained it with asphaltum in terps and then today I rubbed in butchers wax. It's about 20 inches tall and like the work I've been doing lately it's heavy because I squeeze clay bits that are as large as I can handle. It's remarkable how much this clay body shrinks in the kiln.
