Succulent flower

Note the relatively large inflorescence curving its way vertically from he bundle of leaves in this succulent. The whole plant is about an inch tall.

 

All succulents have a special metabolic system ("CAM" metabolism), in which the stomata are open at night in order to lose less moisture during the hot day. This type of metabolism evolved in plants that need to optimize water retention.
