I don't own too many extravagant collectibles, mostly due to desire not to overdo the spending, but also due to space limitations, as these generally tend to me fairly large.
But once in a while, a bargain comes along and you found your excuse to get it anyway.
Presenting the Pop Culture Shock (PCS) 1/3 scale Alpha Chun Li, Number 118 of 350.
Now I knew of and had seen pictures of this statue. Most coveted of the three different costumes, retailing for around $900 USD and getting much worse in the aftermarket.
I happened to find a guy locally who was trying to make some space, and upon closer inspection of said statue, was kind enough to give me further discounts, resulting in very nice, box less statue for $600 CAD.
For those who are unfamiliar with the company, PCS produces mixed media statues of various scales (typically 1/6 to 1/3 scale) of several popular IPs. Bodies are of painted Polystone, and the outfits are fabric. Depending on the way parts connect together, there may be metal pins or magnets involved.
In terms of size, Chun Li here comes in at just under 30 inches tall, fully assembled.
This particular sculpt of Chun Li is very aesthetically pleasing, to say the least. Given a very curvy, but muscular physique, the larger scale just makes every bulge just that much larger than life, and the Alpha suit does a much better job at showcasing her physique than her traditional outfit, though for those in for a bit more skin, the Battle Dress is clearly the winner.
This is probably one of the finest American sculpts of Chun Li I've ever seen, which is another reason I eagerly brought her home to my collection. Some of the Chun Li work from PCS, however, is the stuff that nightmares are made of.
One particularly interesting educational moment for me was the realization that even at this price point, nothing is perfect. The outfit was fantastic, but the paint was off - there were some less than crisp areas on her sneakers and bracelets, and much to my surprise, they didn't even finish painting the whites of her eyes.
Still, despite these flaws, I highly doubt you'll find a more dominant statue of the Strongest Woman in the World for your shelf.... provided your shelf can hold up the weight of this thing.
