A quick overview of the second set I opened - Leonardo with Shredder.
Not really much to add to to the story with Leonardo that hasn't been said before. Decently articulated, seemingly random accessories (weapon aside) which include a closed communicator and two open palm hands. The figure has with pretty good materials and QC both from a paint, assembly, and tolerance perspective. A bit of trivia - this figure does have the privilege of being the second Leonardo figure I've ever owned, because, as mentioned in my prior entry, I found Leo to be the most boring of the Turtles and quite frankly if Shredder was packed with Raph, I'd have easily skipped Leo and not shed a tear. But, as luck would have it, the packing was such that he makes an appearance here.
The leader of the Foot Clan, Shredder himself, is by far my favourite figure of the collection. Krang is fantastic, but lets face it, he really isn't much of an action figure.
So unlike the Turtles, you'll find that the villains in the sets actually come with accessories that make sense (though to be fair, only the Foot Soldiers are duplicated figures). Shredder comes with the figure, four addition hands (open palm, open fist), his katana, communicator with loving picture of Krang on it, and of course, a vial of Mutagen. Shredder has almost identical points of articulation as those of the Turtles (gaining toe articulation), just less hindered due to his svelte ninja master physique, though he does have that rubber skirt to contend with. His outfit is of course adorned with various blades (soft rubbery plastc), as well as his trademark cape. While there has been a 1/6 scale Shredder with his 80s cartoon getup, for the 6 inch scale there haven't been a whole lot. In fact, the only other one I can personally think of is the one from the 80s with the messed up colours, so like with Krang, something that is cartoon accurate is much appreciated.
Paintwork, QC, and tolerances are of course, par for the course with the rest of pieces meaning that it's solid. Detailing on the figure is plentiful without being overly done, with black lines used where appropriate to bring a bit more depth to the figure. While the different colouring for shading can look a bit weird on the Turtles, Shredder features shading on his tunic and the various "chromed" parts of his outfit, which don't get misaligned and as such are able to consistently provide that illusion of depth, no matter what position Shredder is in. Even the small details for the eyes, which are typically messed up *cough* HASBRO *cough* are sharp, much like all the other fine details. There is some glue or some sort of residue on the right side of Shredder's helmet, and I'm going to guess it's just on mine. Masking and paint apps are bit on the weak side for his hands. His cape is just.. kind of there. It's not the greatest cape but it flows fairly well and the colour is a perfect match to make Shredder one stylish mofo.
Speaking of hands, to the surprise of nobody, it doesn't really seem like the open fist hands are really meant for use with anything other than his Katana. You might be able to squeeze the Mutagen into there, but it has a diameter of almost double that of the Katana grip, so I'm not sure how intact the paint work would be even if you could squeeze it in there. The communicator appears meant to use with the open palm hands, but with nothing actually holding it in place, if you're displaying it as such I'd be careful of the thing falling off somewhere and disappearing into the Land of the Lost.
With that, time to move on to the final set I purchased - Mikey and Foot Soldier 1.
