The second Masterpiece Megatron release.

After passing on the the spindly looking MP-5, I think there was a good decade long wait, if not more, before this came along.

Designed to be more show accurate, and in scale with the Masterpiece releases since MP-10 Optimus Prime/Convoy, the set came with pretty much what the original MP-5 did, with the exception of Kremzeek figure, which has been replaced by the mind control helmet used during one particular G1 episode, and the Key to Vector Sigma, which is die cast.

Before I forget.. the quantity of die cast is pretty low on this figure.. or another way of putting it, it seems on par with all the other recent MP figures I've gotten.

With engineering improvements comes a more robust figure, which includes the ability to swap faces and chest pieces, and of course flexible fingers - things which weren't the norm back in the day.

Articulation is as your expect it on a figure of this size. Overall, my only complaint from this perspective is that it seems the right bicep swivel is a bit loose on mine, causing the arm to flop when the Fusion Cannon is mounted.

Located behind the removable face masks in an homage to the scene from the Transformers movie where Megatron is being reformatted into Galvatron.

Having said all that... this is G1 Megatron. All you need is the regular chest plate, and of course, that smirking expression.

The Energon Mace comes with a limp plastic chain, and one which can be twisted and holds in position.

So.. the elephant in the room... this figure is a complete nightmare to transform into gun mode. It makes sense when you look at it from an overall perspective, but it is a rather daunting task.

As with others, I've scratched the paint on my figure, though it is only minor. The most damage come from the installation of the longer barrel to the figure in gun mode.

Overall, it is a much improved figure over the first release, but be prepared to put aside a good chunk of time transforming this figure for the first time, and be mentally prepared for "battle damage"

Let's face it.. you be like the rest of us. Transform it once to gun and back, and leave it in bot mode.
