Boxing Day Blues

Few years back we rented a cottage for Christmas in the Peak District of England. Having celebrated Christmas Day, maybe a little over enthusiastically, Boxing Day dawned, slowly and late.

Having mooned around the cottage for a while I was encouraged to go out for a walk. “Blow the cobwebs away, dear. You never know you might get a few nice snaps”.

It was cold and the air was liquid. It wasn’t raining heavily; just a drizzle or what we call a mizzle. Drizzle and mist. In 5 seconds I was soaked. It was miserable and so was I.

I walked round this lake for a couple of hours; about 4 or 5 miles before returning to the cottage. By New Year’s Eve I had got warm and dry again and was again speaking to the wife

This was the only shot I took.

I’ve spent hours with this image, trying to capture what I felt.

This comes close.
