WD 600 'Gordon'
Ok, I know most people stop by here for bus pictures and that now have the side hobby of colourising old B&W pictures, but this one of Clem Smith's was worth a share I thought. As I've said on occasions before, when B&W is good, its good . . . aided here by the light.
The 2-10-0 locomotive is of couse 'Gordon'. A North British Locomotive Works built 'Riddles Austerity' built for the War Department during WW2.
So far as I'm aware, 'Gordon' was never a main-line engine, but served its its life at the famed and erstwhile Longmoor Military Railway in Hampshire where it was the largest of the locomotives used in training service personel in railway operation.
Happily nowadays 'Gordon' is preserved and after an operating career on the Severn Valley Railway, is now housed in their 'Engine House' museum as a static at Highley station. This was almost certainly my favourite locomotive in the railway's collection.
