'Seafront Sunbus'

. . . or so claims the advert on the side of this Eastbourne Leyland Titan PD2. I don't suppose the wording changed for the other 50-60% of British summer days, but here on Eastbourne seafront in 1978, the weather appears to be quite indifferent.

I presume DHC 784E had been new with a lid on and that the conversion was something done in the Borough Council's own transport workshops. It perhaps lacks the adventurous or fun aspect of most open toppers as it still appears to have full height glazing in the top deck. That said, I suppose most of Eastbourne's clientelle at the time was made up of those generally past the age of adventure so it wouldn't matter.

PSV wise, the promenade here is shared by one of the corporation's East Lancs bodied Leyland Panthers, and for those with a keen eye, something with a Willowbrook 'Spacecar' body.

This photo was taken on the second day of mine and 'Mrs R' (to be)'s first NBC 'Wanderbus' ticket holiday across the south coast.
