Market day bus.
As part of Mrs 'R's (early) retirement gifts, we were treated to a week in a Cumbrian cottage recently by her former board of governors. Living in an urban area, you don't realise just how sparsely served by public transport some rural parts are nowadays, if indeed they have a servcice at all. Thanks to the efforts of the Hamer family and their Cumbria Classic Coaches business, the village of Long Marton sees a weekly round trip to the bright lights and market of Penrith.
Here in the late afternoon working its return journey, and bang on time is their 'modern' bus, an ex Southern Vectis Leyland Olympian, H728 DDL having just passed under the Settle & Carlisle railway and about to enter the village. Once upon a time there was a station here, but whilst the buildings remain they are now private dwellings... I believe that's the former Station Master's house on our right.
