Sea defence

The Martello Tower is visible in the top right hand corner. That was build in 1815 to keep out Napoleon.

When I came to live here in 1987, the beach was a long way down form the promenade, and accessed by steps. At high tide in stormy weather the waves came up over the seafront road.

The pebble beach was installed to prevent flooding and erosion, with tons and tons of shingle dredged up from the sea.

This photo was taken about 10 past 8 in the evening. Today's high temperature here in Seaford was 22º.
