Brinkley, St Mary, Cambs, memorial to Sir Geoffrey Keynes & wife

Sir Geoffrey Keynes achieved distinction in surgery, in bibliography and literary studies. His private library was one of the finest of his period, and much of it went by bequest and purchase to Cambridge University Library. He compiled bibliographies of many authors, including John Donne and he was recognised as an international expert on William Blake, his own library being rich in Blake material. His brother was John Maynard (Lord) Keynes, the economist.

Sir Geoffrey lived for many years in Brinkley. His wife was a Darwin - another of those marriages between leading Cambridge intellectual families. Her sister was Gwen Raverat, the author of that delightful book "Period Piece".
