Saxby-All-Saints, Monument and War Memorial prior to re-dedication

The story of this monument is complex. It was originally dedicated in 1897 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, but also to remember a former Estate Steward of the Barton family; In 1977 it was restored to commemorate the Queen's Silver Jubilee. The village War Memorials are in the church, which is usually locked, and the parish council decided to have a more public memorial by attaching new plaques bearing names of the war dead to this monument. Since it is a listed monument that necessitated getting appropriate consents and the memorial was re-dedicated on 23rd April by Major the Revd Ivan Howitt, a retired priest who is also an Army Cadet Chaplain.
