Magic Time
My youngest student is four years old. She knows her sounds and letters, and I took along 'Green Eggs and Ham' a couple of weeks ago. She knows a lot of it by heart now so I thought we'd try some simple sounding out with 'Hop on Pop'. She's doing very well! (Seuss fans will know that 'Hop on Pop' is simpler than 'Green Eggs and Ham, but GEaH is easier to memorize because of the rhythm, so is a great confidence builder before they really start the sounding out process.)
Watching kids learn to read is like watching magic happen. I still think it's a bit ridiculous that someone pays me to shepherd them along as they improve. It's just too fun to be real work!
