Detroit MI Engine 48

Detroit MI Engine 48

1961 Seagrave

1000 GPM - 500 Tank - Quad

Shop #968 #M-7855 Model: 800-Q

This was the only quad that was ever on the Detroit roster. The neighborhood where this is stationed can be cut off from the remainder of Detroit when a draw bridge over the River Rouge is raised. Due to this situation it was decided that there should be additional ladder capacity on Engine 48.

A quad is a fire engine with a pump, water tank, hose bed and a full compliment of ground ladders. Standard engines only carry two or three ground ladders.

When this photo was taken Detroit was still using fire alarm boxes. Notice the box mounted on the station just above the nose of the quad.
