YG 5711

Y844 crossing Lendal Bridge in York and heading towards Leeds. Y844 was delivered in 1934 with an Eastern Counties rear entrance body, seating 35. It is said that these bodies (five in total) were originally intended for United Counties vehicles, and were fitted in error. These five buses were transferred to York on 1st April 1934 and this vehicle and one other (Y845) were rebodied with secondhand ECOC front entrance bodies in March 1947. The original print is not of the best quality, but this looks like a front-entrance body. Anyone who knows anything about ladies fashions of the time will know whether this is a post-1947 photo. This bus was withdrawn in December 1948 and sold to a non-PSV operator in Cheshire, surviving until at least 1957 (PSVC PB12 with thanks).
