Mac Yard deadline
Time is up for this old beasts...the age of the cowl on Canadian National's roster has come to a close. Within the last year and a half, all of the railway's 2400's and former BCOL 4600's have been retired from active service, with uncertain fates beyond. The "fat bodies" now spend their last days languishing in deadlines like this one behind the shops at MacMillan Yard, or worse, cut into pieces at a scrap dealer in near Welland, Ontario.
Despite many of CN's former dash-8's getting the torch, a good number of units are still intact, and hopefully some of them can receive a second chance at life on the high iron under new ownership...
What really got me was seeing just how many GE dash 9's and GM SD75I's that are now popping up in deadlines across the system, being the youngest road units on roster to be laid up serviceable or not. It made me scratch my head, as both models generally have build dates no earlier than 1995, and yet they are showing up sidelined with their fluids drained and even stacks capped awaiting a return to service... Makes ya feel old.
