South Africa

by sprotbon (Bonnie)

I live in a beautiful part of the world called Somerset West in the western Cape of South Africa. We are very fortunate in our little home town to have a bit of everything: the ocean, mountains, forests, parks, lakes and vineyards.
Somerset West has a population of about 142100. It is situated about a 20-30 min Drive from Cape Town. Surrounding towns are Gordan's Bay, Strand and Stellenbosch. Somerset West is nestled in the valley of the Helderberg and Hottentots Holland mountains.
My favorite place to frequent is the Helderberg Nature reserve for it's untouched beauty.
Other favorable places are Spier Wine estate which also has a restaurant called Moyo. Specializing in a unique African experience.
Vergelegen Wine estate is also another natural beauty and has many beautiful gardens.
The cape dutch styled house can be seen here at it's best.
