Replacements :(

For many years, these 2 westbound signals at the end of the double track in Valley Park, MO on the ex-Frisco St. Louis-Springfield, MO line been timeless sentinels. They have overseen the movements of trains from the tail end of WWII until well into the age of handheld devices. Since installed, just within the world of railroads, they have seen the end of the steam era, the end of the Frisco, the end of the caboose, and the end of the railroad which ended the Frisco.

More than that, they were a fixture to my life as a railfan. Since as long as I can remember, these two single headed searchlights have been ever-present. While a kid, Valley Park was just 5 minutes down the hill and was visited frequently. Even as I left for college, became an adult, and returned to St. Louis, they remained. Often visited as the location was ideal for plopping and waiting for something on this line or the nearby ex-MoPac line. Even if nothing ended up showing, it was still a great way to while away a sunny afternoon. Through it all they still remained. Until early spring of 2019.

Sometimes, growing up and getting old really does suck!
