As simple (filthy) neo classical inscription topped by a broad vase decorated with snakes curling back on themselves as handles. The wide low urn with snake handles are a simplified version of the Warwick Urn (now Burrell Museum, Glasgow) discovered in 1770 and then restored by Piranesi. He sold it to Gavin Hamilton who persuaded his nephew, Lord Warwick to buy it for the gardens of Warwick Castle. Engraved by Piranesi it was one of the most famous, if least authentic, antiques of the time.
