Recent summer trips to Southeastern Washington State and Northern Idaho have served as inspiration for several larger paintings. Watching the “Super Moon” arrive while standing on top of Kamiak Butte just outside Pullman, and witnessing nature unleash wind, rain, and lightning while vacationing on Lake Coeur d’Alene were two natural yet Surrealistic events that set my brush in motion.
Along with larger Abstract Expressionist works, I have chosen to exhibit several sets of glass coasters that feature the theme “World Traveler”. These small compositions are collage pieces that incorporate acrylic wash, Japanese papers, and Smithsonian canceled Stamps from around the world. My intent in creating these smaller abstract paintings is to evoke the color, excitement, and layers of adventure I have experienced after visiting many foreign places. Enjoy the exhibit! -Robert Hunter
