Calling Male Toad

During the spring mating season, American Toads gather in wetlands to sing their trilling song to attract female toads. Over the course of a few days the females will lay eggs which are fertilized by the males. Toad development from eggs to tadpoles to metamorphosing juveniles typically takes four to six weeks. After metamorphosis the tiny juvenile toads will head off into the surrounding forests and fields to grow for a couple years before reaching maturity.
