Leaf Barnacles (family Scapellidae) were extremely common along the lower portions of an artificial breakwater at Mussel Shoals, Ventura County, CA. They were mixed in with large numbers of mussels (Mytilus sp.)

 

Many people don't know that barnacles are an ancient group of crustaceans related to shrimp, crabs, and lobsters
