Wells Cathedral before sunrise
* A shot of the extraordinary West front of Wells cathedral, a thirteenth century masterpiece of gothic architecture . This was taken a little before sunrise on my first morning in Wells it was the first of many images that I shot of the cathedral during my visit . The best time to photograph Wells cathedral is in the late afternoon when the sun illuminates the building perfectly . I do have some shots taken at that time to post at a future time
We had a good holiday, we were based in Wells in Somerset for a week and then a second week in St Ives in the far west of Cornwall. We also spent time in Worcester Gloucester and Bristol . In nearly three weeks we did not have to bring out the umbrellas once which is surprising as the South West can be pretty wet. In the next few weeks I will post at least one image from the different places we managed to visit.
A little bit of personal history I visited Wells when I was fourteen in 1968 with my parents . I was a typical callow and unsophisticated adolescent. However for some reason Wells captured my imagination and I have been telling Mary for forty odd years that we needed to visit the city . I was delighted when Mary first saw the West front she instantly said it was the most beautiful exterior of any church she had ever seen . The house we rented was a few minutes from the cathedral and we were able to see it every day as we walked into the town centre of Wells.
THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT TO MY STREAM.
I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD NOT FAVE A PHOTO WITHOUT ALSO LEAVING A COMMENT .
