Spanish Moss
When I was a teenager I read quite a lot of novels from the American south by writes like Truman Capote, Flannery O’Connor and William Faulkner they all described the landscape of the area . I kept coming across the mysterious term Spanish Moss I really had no idea what it was but I guess thought of the slippery green stuff that forms on paving stones and trees in damp places in England . It was much later when I discovered it was very different indeed . I loved the way that it drapes the trees in Louisiana . This was taken at Lake Martin in the Atchafalaya area of the state
Spanish moss is an epiphytic flowering plant that often grows upon larger trees in tropical and subtropical climates . In the United States from where it is most known, it is commonly found on the southern live oak and bald-cypress in the lowlands, swamps, and savannas of the southeastern United States. Spanish-moss absorbs nutrients and water through its leaves from the air and rainfall. While it rarely kills the tree upon which it grows, it can occasionally become so thick that it shades the tree's leaves and lowers its growth rate.
The coronavirus is not exactly amusing but at least Donald can give us a laugh . He actually believes he knows more about the issues than the World Health Organisation …. its hard to find words…
