Luxor temple was dedicated to the gods Amun-re, his wife Mut and their son Chons. It was founded in 1400 BC and many parts having been added since. . The focus was the annual Opet Festival, in which a cult statue of Amun-re was paraded down the river Nile from nearby Karnak Temple (ipet-isut) to stay there for a while, with his consort Mut, in a celebration of fertility. The Gods as well as the people were having a big party.
