693J

A picture I purchased at a transport fair the other week - thanks to PM Photo's- of a vehicle and at a location that I recognised immediately.

Former Thomas Tilling AEC Regent GJ2098 new in 1930 is seen (around 1965 at a guess?) in a well known Hertfordshire scrapyard after last serving(s) with British Road Services at their Tufnell Park Depot, prior to that being used in a similar capacity as Mobile Staff Canteen 693J until 1955 by London Transport who had converted it from their ST922 in 1947.

Thankfully this venerable old machine made a break for freedom from this yard around 1966 courtesy of Mr Prince Marshall, and it was later restored to its original bus form and still survives in the ownership of the LBPT.
