The recently rebuilt Annaghroe Bridge linking Caledon in Co. Tyrone with Glaslough in Co. Monaghan, and also Northern Ireland with the Republic.
This and nearby Knockaginny Bridge, both of which span the River Blackwater, were the last two roads to remain closed on the Irish border and were reopened at a cost of £900,000 in October 2010. According to reports, both of the old bridges were destroyed by the British Army during the early 1970s at the height of The Troubles, though one article (www.transport.ie/pressRelease.aspx?Id=245) suggests Annaghroe Bridge was closed as far back as the 1950s. Anyone know for sure?
