Cocoon nebula

Cocoon nebula (IC 5146) lies in the star rich milky way between the constellation Cygnus and Lacerta.

The nebula is an emission nebula like the Orion nebula. Young bright stars inside the nebula ionize hydrogen gases and make the nebula glow.

You can see the dark lane (like a river!) toward the left (westward) from the nebula. It is Barnard 168 dark nebula which is interstellar dust blocking the stars on the milky way from us.
