The Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Guadalupe dominates the small town of Guadalupe in the Extremadura region of Spain. Begun in the late 13th century, the monastery has undergone many alterations over the years as can be seen in the variety of styles seen in this picture.
The church at the heart of the monastery houses the famous blackened wood statue of the Madonna and child.
