20th Air Force Ashtray
An aluminum ashtray commemorating the 20th Air Force. There is a B-29 Superfortress model held up by an Air Force "wing." There is a felt bottom and on it is a piece of masking tape that says "October 25, 1945, Harmon Field." The model B-29 has a 9" wingspan, so the scale is 1/185. When I obtained this piece, it was not nearly so shiny. It was an oxidized dull grey and was quite dirty. After some clean up with diluted white vinegar and a very soft brush, the appearance is much improved. The model really has very little detail yet does a phenomenal job of conveying the unmistakable lines of the Superfortress. One can even see the tail gunner's compartment on the tail section.
