here is a list of things that, as a flickr member/photographer, i promise that i will NEVER do:
1) i promise that i will never delete old photographs that i have taken and posted to flickr, no matter how bad they are. everyone was a beginner at some point in time. attempting to erase the past is pretentious bullshit.
2) i promise that i will never copy a photograph taken by another. some have attempted to copy photos taken by myself or my associates. i would site specific examples, but i'm a classy motherfucker.
3) i promise that i will never use those stupidassed shorthand abbreviations when posting a comment on someone's photograph. i will never type "u" when i mean "you" or "luv" when i mean "love". i will also NEVER type "lmao", "omg", or "rolf-copters and loller-skates!!!111!!!"
4) i will never take a group of suburban (and i'm not saying anything against suburbanites. i grew up in the suburbs too) middle-aged women into an abandoned building in detroit. reasons being: a) these people do NOT belong in these places. detroit is not as bad as most people think, but people still get robbed and people still get their asses beat for no reason. i'm sure everyone remembers when partybag got jacked at easttown? and he's a detroiter! well, sort of... b) REAL (and by real, i mean people that have been doing this for many years and are very passionate about it) explorers/photographers despise them. seriously. these "ghetto tour guides" are laughing stocks to us. i can gurantee that for every positive comment they get on their photo stream, there is a joke made at their expense. seriously.
5) i will never leave a comment saying that i like someone's photograph if, in fact, i really don't like it. that is a reprehensible act and a disservice to the recipient of the comment. if, based on feedback from peers, someone believes that they are a fantastic photographer, then there is no reason for improvement. why would anyone attempt to become a better photographer if they're already the best? this is what is meant by "attaboy" comments: it's praising mediocrity for the purpose of keeping another down.
if you have made it this far, i would like you to notice that this is a list of things that I MYSELF promise not to do. if YOU are offended by this list then it is only due to YOUR perception of the things that i am saying. perhaps you need to look inside yourself and find out why you are offended. that being said, this is a working list that may be added to in the future.
