The Cholmondeley Sisters - c.1600-1610
Portrait entitled 'The Cholmondeley Sisters' by an unknown artist, c.1600-1610.
Little is known about the painting apart from the fact that the women are probably sisters. It has been suggested that they are twins however this has been rejected by some due to their different eye colours. The painting had been owned for years by the Cholmondeley (pronounced "chumly") family in Cheshire, England.
Their babies are swaddled which was popular practice during this period.
