Coldwater Surfing
There is a dirt parking area at the end of a campground that we frequent in the Fort Ross area that leads you to 2 coves, or you can hike on the bluff over to Fort Ross. On our last trip, the parking lot was full of cars - highly unusual, since you can't harvest Abalone or spearfish here anymore. Going down to a usually deserted cove, we found it full of surfers taking advantage of a "rightous South swell". There must be some sort of surfing social network that tipped everyone off. All I can say, is that these folks are a lot braver than I'll ever be, surfing this small, rocky cove!
