Polygonia c-album (C-Falter)

The Comma butterfly (Polygonia c-album) is a native European butterfly that is easily recognized by its orange-brown wings with dark spots and distinctively jagged edges. It gets its name from a small white marking on the underside of its hindwings, which resembles a comma. When its wings are closed, its leaf-like appearance provides excellent camouflage. One particularly interesting fact is that the Comma butterfly overwinters as an adult, allowing it to emerge on the first warm days of spring. It is commonly found along woodland edges, in forest clearings, and in natural gardens.
