Ephemeroptera (Eintagsfliege)

Mayflies are delicate insects whose larvae live in water. Depending on the species, they develop there over a longer period before emerging as adults. Adult mayflies usually live only briefly and mainly serve to reproduce. They are recognizable by their transparent wings and the long tail filaments at the end of the abdomen. Since their larvae depend on water, mayflies are often found near streams, rivers, ponds or wet meadows.
