Red Chested Sunbird

"Red-Chested Sunbird" on a Lion's Ear or Wild Dagga plant with its yellow-flowered cultivar, a prominent nectar-producing shrub seen in certain places here. The tubular flower shape and bright colouration are adapted specifically for attracting African Sunbirds, which possess curved bills ideal for reaching the deep nectar stores, like the Red-Chested Sunbird. Photos need to be captured pronto, or these small 'frisky' birds are there for a fleeting moment, and poof, they are gone ! The play of the iridescent colours in the light are always an eye-catcher and a mesmerising spectacle !!!
