Rosette Nebula (Caldwell 49)

The Rosette Nebula (Caldwell 49), a large emission nebula in the constellation Monoceros, lies about 5,000 light-years from Earth. At its center is a young cluster of hot stars whose radiation has carved out the dark central cavity and illuminates the surrounding hydrogen gas, creating the nebula’s distinctive rose-like structure.
