The intent of this photo was to capture the butterfly specked in pollen as it landed on the flowers. I chose this shot because of the contrast between the vibrant magenta and crimson of the flowers contrasted with the browns, whites, and oranges on the butterfly. This was shot handheld at 1/400, f/2.8 at ISO 100.
I was happy with this image and composition and really enjoyed how the final contrast came out bringing the vision of the image to life. The direction of the flowers is mirrored by the wings of the butterfly towards the negative space and the richness in colors and tones created a really powerful division in the image.
For post production I cropped the image in to create the frame as well as used ACR to increase the vibrance, bump clarity, dehaze the image, and adjust highlights and shadows. I additionally used dodging and burning for effect.
This shot was taken from a little farther away than I would have liked but that day I was shooting with my 24-70mm f/2.8. The sharpness of the lens is fantastic but for some shots the lack of range can be constraining.
