Ruellia macrantha in winter bloom

In english this is given the name 'Christmas Cheer', but in its native Brazil, it would be blooming in their winter, our summer. A fabulous subtropical herbaceous shrub for bright shade or morning sun with moist soil, and it can bloom for a couple of months in winter, or off and on all year round. One of the showiest large flowered Ruellia species that doesn't need tropical heat to grow, making it much better for cooler SF Bay Area gardens.
