Built for LTU as D-AERX in 1992 and acquired by Swissair as HB-IWT in November 1998, this MD-11 was one of several not transferred to the new Crossair/Swiss entity in 2002. After the Swissair grounding in October 2001 it was instead stored at Zürich
In June 2002 it was acquired by Central Air Leasing and registered as N15WF. It remained stored at Zürich until late 2004, when it was made ready again. It was eventually seen departing from runway 28, heading for freighter conversion, and still sporting basic Swissair colours with hastily overtaped titles.
In May 2005 freighter conversion was completed, and the MD-11 then flew for Transmile until early 2011, when it was acquired by Federal Express. Now registered as N643FE, it is still active today.
