Wood layers

Photo taken for the Macro Monday’s group theme 'Layers'.

 

Last summer, this small branch, about 5cm in diameter, broke off one of our very mature shrubs. The wood was already very dry and brittle. Natural processes have eaten away at some of the structure, leaving these fibrous layers.

 

The maximum distance in this photo is 3 cm.
