upper control unit
This board forms the processor part of an e-bike upper control unit. It plugs into the main Board which together form a compact control and termination system. Its purpose is to control the flashing of the indicators, brightness and flashing (strobe) of the front lights, to switch front lights to static mode when indicators are operating and to send commands such as indicating, braking and rain / fog light activation to the rear light cluster via Can bus.
There is provision for an instrument cluster and communication to the traction battery over the Can bus network. The board assembly was designed to be as small as possible, the only constraint being the number of connectors. JST series connectors have been chosen as the are common to all my circuit designs. The programming socket is a Molex microblade as this is an ultra-compact connector. An Atmega328 processor forms the core of the unit, a hardware watchdog uses a NE555 if the processor was ever to latch due to any transients from the drive system.
