Col de la Forclaz - Pointe Ronde - Chaux de Bovine - La Giète

Après la tentative d'ascension inachevée en octobre 2023 (à cause d'une tendinite ligamentaire du tibia, j'ai dû m'arrêter au sommet de l'alpage de Prélayes), j'ai enfin pu faire l'ascension de Pointe Ronde, dans la région du Trient. Départ depuis le Col de la Forclaz avec une montée assez soutenue jusqu'à l'alpage des Prélayes. À l'alpage, j'ai dû contourner un troupeau de vaches d'Hérens belliqueux, il y avait notamment une vache qui frappait ses cornes contre l'abreuvoir, tout en me fixant… Ensuite l'ascension en direction de la Croix de Prélayes et de Pointe Ronde, se fait la plupart du temps sur la crête. Soyez particulièrement prudent à la roche très friable lors des derniers 200, 300 mètres d'ascension ! Visuellement, tout a l'air très instable, donc vigilance et ne pas hésiter à rebrousser chemin au cas où… La vue depuis Pointe Ronde est fabuleuse, spécialement sur le glacier du Trient, les Aiguilles du Midi et la plaine du Rhône. Retour au col de la Forclaz, par la Chaux de Bovine, avec la présence de nombreux troupeaux de vaches, et par l'alpage de La Giète. À noter que la descente depuis la Chaux de Bovine jusqu'à l'alpage de la Giète est catastrophique : chemin inexistant… remplacé par un ruisseau, descente dans des arbustes de 1 mètre de hauteur… Pourtant, le tracé est indiqué sur de nombreuses cartes, mais sur une grande partie de la boucle, le sentier disparait petit à petit, parfois, il réapparait, comme par magie… c'est au bonheur la chance, heureusement que de temps en temps, il y a quelques cairns pour trouver son chemin… En résumé, aucun entretien des services communaux, même pas de peinture rouge/blanc sur la roche, le contraste avec le chemin de randonnée du TMB, qui passe par l'alpage de la Giète, est saisissant. Pour le TMB, tout est nickel, herbe tondue deux mètres de chaque côté… Bref, pour les touristes américains, la commune met le paquet, mais pour les locaux et les petits sentiers environnants, c'est l'abandon et débrouillez-vous ! Déplorable !
After the incomplete ascent attempt in October 2023 (due to a ligamentous tendonitis of the tibia, I had to stop at the top of the Prélayes alp), I was finally able to climb Pointe Ronde in the Trient region. Start from the Col de la Forclaz with a fairly steady climb to the Alpage des Prélayes. At the alp, I had to go around a herd of cows of belliqueux herens, there was in particular a cow that was hitting its horns against the watering can, while staring at me... Then the ascent towards the Croix de Prélayes and Pointe Ronde, is mostly on the ridge. Be especially careful with the very friable rock during the last 200, 300 meters of ascent! Visually, everything looks very unstable, so be alert and do not hesitate to turn back in case... The view from Pointe Ronde is fabulous, especially on the Trient glacier, the Aiguilles du Midi and the plain of the Rhône. Return to the col de la Forclaz, by the Chaux de Bovine, with the presence of many herds of cows, and by the La Giète alp. Note that the descent from the Chaux de Bovine to the Giète alp is catastrophic: no way... replaced by a stream, descending into shrubs 1 meter high... However, the path is indicated on many maps, but on a large part of the loop, the trail disappears little by little, sometimes it reappears, as if by magic... it’s luck, fortunately that from time to time there are a few cairns to find its way... In summary, no maintenance of the communal services, not even red/ white paint on the rock, the contrast with the TMB hiking trail, which goes through the alp of Giète, is striking. For the TMB, everything is nickel, grass mowed two meters on each side... In short, for American tourists, the municipality puts the package, but for local and small trails surrounding it is abandonment and get by!
