To Infinity and beyond

I have installed MX Linux 25.1.1 'Infinity' on my Macbook Air from 2015. It took about 15 minutes from booting the USB stick to installation complete. I thought about keeping the original MacOS (Monterey) in a separate partition, but there was little point as I would never use it.

Everything works nicely, except the webcam. It needs its own specific driver that is not included with the install media; as it's something I will never use, it can stay dormant. It found my network printer without any issues.

Battery management is best addressed by installing tlp, which allows a few things to be fine tuned to achieve longer life away from the power socket. The best 'fix' is to reduce screen brightness as far as is comfortable.

There's no 'nightlight' on the XFCE installation, but installing sct and running it from the command line works nicely. I have added 2 icons to the desktop so I can run it manually for daytime and nightime use. Less automation means less power consumption!

Sound is as expected from the tiny speakers, but bluetooth connects to my external speakers nicely.

All the keys work properly, including media controls, and the keyboard backlight, too.

You can also see that I have installed Google Chrome (don't hate me; it's what I use) and made shortcuts to Mail, Calendar and, of course, Flickr. The icons are all in the system software.

For now, I am content.
