Ralphs #190 Oxnard, CA Closeout Sale
Ralphs #190 managed to survive without a renovation for a long time, and now come to find out, their lease ends June 4th, and the property owner is set to replace this Ralphs with a Vallarta. There is a potential Kroger knew the property owner wasn't going to negotiate to renew their lease, hence why this store may have never seen a renovation from its Hughes interior since it's opening. From what reports are saying, it sounds like Vallarta will be completely gutting out the store, and renovated to their standards.
Since its closure was announced, and I happened to be driving through Oxnard soon after, I decided to pay this store one last visit before it was ripped apart, on 3/29/24. While some store closing sales make the store look like an apocalypse, this store still had plenty of merchandise left. Workers were stocking areas such as produce, as well as actively running the butcher, seafood, and deli service counters, but shelves and displays were starting to clear out with many items market as 50% off. Reports say this store is closing in June, but if merchandise is clearing out before April begins, I have high doubts it will last that long and can imagine the store will close sooner. A week from my visit, this store will likely be much more empty.
After the closure of this Ralphs, South Oxnard will have a void of full-service supermarkets, with Albertsons/ Lucky (SuperValu owned) up the road now long gone, the area will be dominated by Superior, now with 2 locations, Vallarta, El Super, as well as Walmart. Since there is already a Vallarta up the road, as well as another Vallarta on the Northern end of town, it is unclear if Vallarta will shutter any of those two locations in favor of this new one.
