“Hungry? I’m starving,” Adrienne said. “I haven’t eaten in hours.”
Kayla smirked. “I’ll take you to a place in Rome that I love.”
The crash of the crock sent both girls spinning toward the sound.
No warning. No time to react.
Kayla's grip tightened around Adrienne's arm.
“Jump. Now!”
She landed in Rome—alone. Adrienne didn’t jump!
The intruder had disrupted her VDD and prevented Adrienne from jumping. Whatever happened scrambled her VDD and she couldn’t jump back!
Now in panic, Kayla worked frantically to reboot her VDD.
Adrienne stood exposed in the dim room, no longer flickering between dimensions. A large man in black suit entered the room. Blood trickled down his face from the crock's impact, yet he seemed unphased. His glare fixed on Adrienne and without a word, he slipped a sleek, metallic device into his coat.
A disrupter.
His voice now slithered through the air—low, guttural, thick with phlegm. "Your jump device is useless now. Come with me, or I end you here."
Adrienne’s chest tightened. She staggered back, trembling.
A rasped voice echoed out, "We need her alive."
The bald man.
He had returned—with the others in tow.
"Grab her. Before she does something... permanent. Like the last one."
The path to the doors blocked there was no way out. Think quick!!
She made a dash for the bedroom.
Two men lunged at Adrienne.
