The was just something that was unexplainable that made the SD24s so visually appealing, especially in the Santa Fe's 'Pin Stripe" paint scheme.
Here Santa Fe SD24 4561 is at the Barstow diesel shops circa 1971. Soon it will be rebuilt in what Santa Fe call a "SD26", which would alter the mysterious actractiveness and erase the pin stripe paint scheme in favor of the new yellow warbonnet scheme.
